Wednesday update

I emailed CTV news yesterday asking why a Canadian man has been missing for a week and there still has been nothing on the news. This is a link to their story.

Police are continuing their search for a Calgary man working in the Bahamas who has been missing for almost a week.

Darrell Cloutier, 34, has worked as an administrative officer for PCL Constructors Bahamas Ltd. on Paradise Island since 2004.

CTV Calgary learned that Cloutier was last seen Tuesday night last week. When he didn't come into work on Wednesday morning, company officials went to his condominium but found no sign of Cloutier. The door to his home was open and his groceries were still in his car.

A 36-year-old Bahamian woman is in custody and is being questioned in connection with Cloutier's disappearance, Hulan Hanna, the chief superintendent for the police force in the Bahamas, told CTV Calgary.

Police are not releasing any more information on the woman, although reports say she and Cloutier may have known each other.

Police are still searching for another man, identified as 32-year-old Don Diego Cartwright. He is also from the Bahamas and is described as a person of interest in the case.

In a statement, PCL officials said: "Darrel has been with PCL for eight years. He is a wonderful employee that has done a tremendous job in the Bahamas and was a couple of weeks away from returning to Canada. It is an awful situation and we hope he will be found safely."

Police say Cloutier is a resident of Sandyport. He is 5'9" tall, weighs 180 pounds with dark brown hair and a receding hairline.

Cloutier's father has travelled to the island and has spoken with police. Cloutier's brother is also heading down to help with the investigation.

Police in the Bahamas have been in communication with Canada's Foreign Affairs office. CTV's calls to the department were not returned on Tuesday.

Friends join forces to find missing Albertan

CALGARY -- Canadian friends of a Calgarian missing and feared dead in the Bahamas have been scouring canals for the man's body, says one of his pals.

Darrell Cloutier, 34, who has worked as a manager on a hotel project for PCL Construction in the Caribbean islands was reported missing April 11.

Bags of groceries were found left in his car in the parkade at his home, said Calgarian Dylan Murray, adding his last credit card purchases were at a restaurant and a supermarket in Nassau.

"The feeling is, he was set up to be robbed ... it's horrible," said Murray, who has known Cloutier for two and a half years.

Yesterday, a Bahamian man wanted in connection to the case, Don Diego Cartwright, 32, reportedly turned himself in to police.

But Cloutier, who was last heard from April 10, has not been found and a group of Canadian friends on the islands have banded together to scour watercourses for him, said Murray, 24, who once worked as a diving instructor in the Bahamas.

"The guys have taken days off work to use boats to search the canals," said Murray.

"They've been told by police to search a lake where criminals are known to dump bodies."

A $10,000 reward to solve the mystery of the disappearance has been offered by the Canadians, who play street hockey together.

A woman known to be a female acquaintance of Cloutier's, was arrested earlier and found to possess the missing man's credit and bank cards, said Murray.
